Lind deserves some R-I-S-P-E-C-T

Adam Lind has been perhaps the most pleasant surprise offensively for the Toronto Blue Jays thus far in 2009. The 25-year-old, who has mainly been used in the designated hitter spot this year, heads into action today leading all DH’s with 31 RBIs. That currently puts him fourth overall in the American League, trailing only Evan Longoria (44), Canadian Jason Bay (33) and Carlos Pena (32).

Where Lind has really shined has been in ‘clutch’ situations. In fact, he leads the majors in RBIs (18) with runners in scoring position and two outs. In that same situation, he’s third in hits (10) and is batting an impressive .476 (10-for-21).

Overall, with runners in scoring position, Lind is batting .381 (16-for-42) and is tied for fourth in the league with 25 RBIs.

Lind will take these numbers into Sunday’s game against the Oakland Athletics, his 33rd start in 34 games for the Blue Jays this year. All of those starts have been as the No. 5 hitter for the Jays, who enter Sunday with a 21-12 record, good for first place overall in the AL, one game ahead of the Boston Red Sox for the East division lead.
